We, the young people of Newman, are looking for a permanent space for us to meet, work, play and relax. We would like to set up a youth media lab, host youth-run events and have a place to chill out.

On July 1 2009, Newman Youth Services closed its doors. Since then there has been no permanent space for young people in Newman.

From July to November 2009, CuriousWorks has been helping the young people of Newman make videos, music, websites and other media at Newman’s schools and various temporary spaces around town.

A group of leaders from this group has set up a collective called “YourSpace”, committed to securing a permanent space for young people in Newman. Check out the YouthSpace website here.

On Thursday, October 29, we’ll be hosting Newman’s first film festival in the shopping centre car park. Put down the date in your diaries!

On Monday October 5 2009, we secured a fantastic space for a month – the old Wheelies warehouse (thanks to Ron and Sharon). We’ll let you know about the cool events we’ll be hosting here.

But we still need to find a permanent home… Please sign our petition to help us secure one.
